Indian granite: a journey from quarry to kitchen. Explore major quarrying regions, unique stone varieties, and the path from extraction to your project.
Read MoreChoosing the right granite involves considering color, pattern, finish, and application. Neutral tones like white, gray, and black suit most spaces; bold colors and patterns work well as accents. Match the finish to use: polished for kitchens and high-traffic areas, honed for a matte look, leathered for texture and grip.
Quality grades are determined by color consistency, thickness uniformity, structural integrity, and the absence of filler or repairs. Premium slabs show minimal variation within a batch and are fully inspected before export. Origin matters—granite from established Indian quarries in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan is known for consistent quality and reliable supply.
At Yoga Granites we inspect every slab for these factors and work only with quarries that meet our standards, so you can specify with confidence.
Finishes: Polished granite is glossy and reflective, easy to clean, and highlights color and pattern. Honed granite has a matte, smooth surface and hides fingerprints and light scratches. Leathered granite has a soft sheen and textured feel, good for busy kitchens and outdoor use.
Daily care: Wipe with a soft cloth and pH-neutral cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive pads, and leaving acidic substances (citrus, vinegar) on the surface. Use trivets under hot pans.
Sealing: Most granite benefits from a penetrating sealer every 1–2 years (or as recommended). Test by placing a few drops of water on the surface; if it darkens quickly, reseal. Proper care keeps your granite looking like new for decades.
India is one of the world’s leading sources of natural granite. Major quarrying regions include Andhra Pradesh (e.g. Chimakurthy for Black Galaxy and other premium blacks), Karnataka (Absolute Black, Steel Gray, Imperial Red), Tamil Nadu (Colonial White, Kashmir White, river whites), Rajasthan (exotic browns and blues), and Gujarat (white and veined varieties).
Stone is extracted in blocks, then cut into slabs and finished (polished, honed, or leathered) before being packed and shipped. Yoga Granites sources directly from trusted quarries in these regions, with quality checks at each stage, so the granite you order is traceable from quarry to your project.
